There’s nothing you need to know about this book before you read it. You oughta trust us by now. @filet_o_calvin’s third novel is tuned to a frequency you’ll feel in your gut. Really funny and sad in the most quiet of ways, good for the soul. The great American novel (link below)

The poet writes, "technically combat favours Odessa"—to offer one example in a stream of musings that invoke Rilke, Derrida, and Ricoeur. The goal is perhaps to put lots on the page in an attempt to juxtapose literary theory with geopolitics in the hopes of glimpsing an opening.

I can think of secret reasons why this isn't about Iraq/Afghanistan/etc or a reaction to W.C. Bryant's "Thanatopsis." That said, deciding that a poem is about the release of death after protracted combat is surely preferable to finding a poem merely ambiguous and inexhaustible.
