In my heart, I am teacher/preacher/“discipler.” This is why I am so deeply passionate about thoughtful liturgy. Liturgy IS catechesis. It’s doctrine set to worship. It’s spiritual formation habituated week after week. It’s not about “vibes” or anything else.

I’m gonna keep it real, I’m not entirely sure what neo-Pentecostalism actually is and who qualifies for that title.

Okay, last tweet for a bit, but I genuinely think a strong doctrine of the Trinity, of Union with Christ, and of Recapitulation can solve the PSA thing and incorporate all models of the atonement together in harmony.

Christ is Adam and Israel recapitulated. He both does what they can't do in being righteous and He bears what they caused, submitting to death. He conquers the enemies they couldn't, namely sin and death, and gives us that victory via Union with Christ.

In Christ, I am righteous; therefore, the Law has no more condemnation. In Christ, I have already been crucified, dead, and buried, so death doesn't get to talk to me anymore. In Christ, I have been resurrected and seated in the heavenly places with all spiritual blessings.

God created a world where death is the consequence of sin. God Himself became a Man, absorbed that curse/punishment, and then obliterated it into a thousand pieces. This is both penal and Christus Victor and Ransom/Redemption, as Christ offers Himself to death to set me free.

Just a reminder that The Father is God and the Son is God and the Spirit is God. This means God Himself became a man, willingly laid down His own life, willingly endured His own imposed curse on human nature, and willingly raised Himself to new life. No divine child abuse here.

Christ perfectly satisfied the demands of the Law, both in its requirements for obedience and in its curses for disobedience. Christ, the Second Adam, fulfills the law and fully bears/exhausts its curse in the stead of all human beings.

What if God baked into creation, as a matter of divine justice, that sinners would die as a “natural” consequence of sin and Christ bore God’s wrath on the cross to bear sin and exhaust death and all of this works with all other atonement frameworks?.

This is the best, most concise summary of Anselmian Satisfaction I’ve ever read.

For Anselm, the incarnation was needed to solve two problems: man had dishonored God and had been overcome by the devil. Only God as man could honor God and defeat the devil, who has power over death. His perfect life gives honor to God and by his death he gives us his life.

The imputation of Christ’s active righteousness seems obvious with a very strong doctrine of Union with Christ.

RT @DavidFish7: I’ve had people push back when I pray, “Come, Holy Spirit,” or ask God for “more” of His presence and power. The objection….

Baptism places you INTO the Christ, the Anointed One. By this your sins are forgiven by the Righteous One and Perfect Sacrifice and you are promised the Anointing by being in the Anointed One. What the Father gives the Son, the Son gives to those in Him.

🧵The Apostle Peter’s logic is that Jesus “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear” and then goes on to say “Repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” and you will receive the gift.
