Over 10,000 (officially) homeless people in Ireland. Someone please walk the execs at AirBnB through the numbers on how many nights residents of Dublin have spent without a home and we can consider again whether slightly cheaper holidays are worth it

Quick reminder for those in the back: Your #notredame hot-takes that piously ask us to imagine "what a billion would do for South Sudan and Congo" feeds into the belief of scarcity and competition that are the underlying machinery of the dynamics that destroy Sudan and Congo.

If, instead, you pretend that the only real world is the world where your private property claims have extreme purchase over all other uses, then the exact thing you are avoiding is the awkward compromise demanded by someone else in need.

If you commit to living in a community where others can assert that their need outweighs your comfort and that your private possessions are permeable based on your neighbour's circumstances, *that* is a life dedicated to compromise.

What is actually happening when Christians ignore the communitarian message of the New Testament that reaches its peak in Acts 2 and Acts 4 is not resigning themselves to a life of compromise. They are refusing compromise.

A recent review of @ethicsage in an Irish pastoral journey closes by rejecting the call to lives woven closer through Christian worship by saying "In truth most of us live lives of compromise.". This is a standard evasion and it is interesting because it exactly misdescribes life.

A key aspect of the fourth chapter of Theological Ethics in a Neoliberal Age is that neoliberal policy seeks to stifle protest. Delighted to see a figure as significant as @GeorgeMonbiot making that point so clearly:

Spend your life insisting that policy should be driven by informed self-interest but then deny your self-interest informs your policies: This interview is a test-tube sample of how neoliberal politicians eat your cake and keep their own.

"The ratings agency Moody’s has already threatened to downgrade Berlin’s credit status should the expropriation proposal become policy." What is this except the disenchantment of politics by neoliberal power?
