Maduro’s regime lacks democratic legitimacy. Still, international law is universal and binding on all states. The US operation in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law. I call for a peaceful transition to democratic governance in Venezuela.

In Seoul today, I met brave students from the International Democracy Hub. The IDH works to promote human rights in North Korea. The testimonies from young escapees from North Korea were deeply touching. Their perspectives remind us why we cannot forget those still suffering.

Today, I visited the Joint Security Area at the DMZ between North and South Korea. Standing at the border of a conflict that has been frozen since 1953, I’m reminded about a key lesson for Ukraine: that the way a war ends shapes the post-war era for generations to come.
