I note that the @H3Africa imputation panel used in this study has since been updated and enhanced substantially and now provided as the Afrigen-D Imputation Server here:

[3] By analyzing publicly available chromatin accessibility data, I proposed a model for the developmental regulation of expression of FLT1, and hypoxia-mediated induction in erythroleukemic cells. @GeneMAPOfficial @SickleInAfrica @H3Africa @UCTHealthSci @UCTIDM @HopkinsMedicine.

[3] With rigorous statistical and functional fine mapping, I identified three SNPs likely to explain the effect of FLT1, falling within FLT1 promoter and a candidate enhancer (not previously reported) -40kb upstream of FLT1 TSS.

[2] I used an innovative multi-panel and association approach and showed that it is superior over selecting a "best-performing" panel. (Work is ongoing to assess how it compares to meta-imputation).

In this @NatureComms paper ( of my PhD work,. [1] I analyzed genomic data of individuals with SCD of African descent using imputation-based #GWAS and meta-analysis and identified #FLT1 as a potential modifier of HbF level, with many other candidate loci.

we utilized multiple imputation resources in the study and observed important factors (aside from sample size and LD) that can substantially limit the 'power' of GWAS in highly structured African populations.

a key highlight is an evolutionarily preserved signature of epigenetic regulation of CHST15 in malarious environments that was uncovered through a combination of great @hmg_journal editorial work and our careful analysis.

Absolutely astonishing! "Neanderthal man" gets this year's #NobelPrize in Medicine. Simply beautiful!. The "godfather" of ancient DNA studies. Read this nature piece to hear what other towering voices in the field have to say about this true hero.

Today’s #NobelPrize winner Svante Pääbo is a true authority on the study of ancient DNA. He was the first to successfully clone DNA from a mummy, and in 2009, he completed sequencing of the Neanderthal genome (in collaboration with Jim Mullikin @genome_gov!).
