Key discussions will explore priority issues for East Africa, including climate adaptation, early warning systems, resilient farming such as agroecology, the role of farmers’ organisations in shaping solutions and the importance of financing for adaptation.

Across two days, the forum will provide a platform to deepen mutual understanding between farmers’ representatives and journalists and establish a network of dedicated media professionals committed to food and climate reporting.

This event seeks to bridge that gap by strengthening the relationship between farmers’ organisations and the media, ensuring that the voices of smallholder farmers are elevated in regional and global conversations.

Farmers play a key role in addressing the climate crisis: they feed communities, safeguard biodiversity and sustain rural economies. Despite this, their perspectives remain underrepresented in policy dialogue and media narratives.

This global alliance represents over 80 million producers across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific, united by the commitment to place family farmers at the centre of the climate and food systems agenda.

During the meeting, ESAFF presented key outcomes from the recently concluded #SB62 UN Climate Talks in #Bonn, unpacking what they mean for Africans. ESAFF also highlighted African smallholder farmers’ priorities ahead of #COP30, including the need for increased climate finance

#ESAFF is participating in the Regional Consultative Meeting of the #UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders #2025RCMAfrica, which brings together key voices from across Africa including farmers, scientists, youth, women, workers and CSOs to align regional priorities ahead of #AMCEN.

#ESAFF contributes the voices of smallholder farmers from the region, adding value through perspectives on agroecology, food sovereignty and the importance of inclusive, farmer-centred data systems.

The meeting aims to validate national data and review the region’s performance against the Malabo Declaration commitments on agriculture transformation by 2025.

ESAFF is participating alongside the #SADC Secretariat, #CAADP focal points, government ministries, experts and non-state actors in the Regional Technical Validation Meeting on the 5th Biennial Review (BR) Report.
