Death end re;Quest: Code Z is out on Steam. Created by Kedouin Makoto (Corpse Party), it's a roguelike RPG spin-off with an all-stars cast of familiar characters and a higher level of violence. JP/EN/CN

Kano feels a strong responsibility and respects the creators for their efforts. This revival was only possible because the original team agreed to transfer the rights. For them, it's a passion project, and it might become their last R18 otome, given the decline of the market.

The team will launch a crowdfunding caplaign via ci-en on September 5 for additional support, but the development will continue regardless of the outcome.

The current development team is unrelated to the original one (the artist remains the same). It's an independent and smaller in size team, which is why the format shifted to episodic release, though the original story and overall scale remain mostly unchanged.

The team still wanted to finish the game, believing it might be their last big title in the genre. Eventually, a contract was signed guaranteeing that rights would transfer to Kano if the project stalled for a certain period. This is what allowed the game's revival today.

Unfortunately, the game's director left soon after development began. Grandes Odalisques was much larger in scale than the company's earlier titles, so delays kept piling up, with Kano unable to do much about it.

Kano Takaco, the game's creator, was a freelancer and had limited influence over development. By 2019, most of their tasks were complete, while the rest was left to the development company.
