Business-building hint: you can work your in-person customers into your order schedule. It’s a good idea if you want to offer a functional in-person experience without reservations. Esp. with fast-cooking food like wood-fired pizza. 🤷♂️

Tried to go to a wood-fired pizza place for dinner. Doesn’t take reservations. We show up and there’s plenty of seating available, both indoors and out. Person at counter welcomes us, looks at stack of phone orders for pickup, says “if you order now, it’ll be… ~70 minutes.” 👎👎

I'm stoked to learn that both pieces I submitted for this year's International Computer Music Conference were selected! Only one will be performed (those are the rules 👍) but it's exciting for both of them to pass peer review. Headed back to China this fall!

Refreshing the message for the people in the back: if you are submitting a video to a double-blind peer-reviewed conference, you should not include a title slide with your name(s) in the video. This seems pretty straightforward but it comes up literally. every. time.

I’ve been using Waves plug-ins for almost 30 years. I’ve been teaching them for 23 years. I’ve had hundreds of students come through my program. Pretty sure this subscription move on their part is going to be the end of Waves around here. We’ll see.

I think reply-all should have some sort of extra hurdle in front of it. Like you have to solve a math problem to use it or something. And other people on the list should be able to vote on how hard your math problems should be based on the quality & frequency of your replies-all.

I’m very fortunate and privileged to work with the festival organizers, Jeff Kaiser, Elisabeth Stimpert, Alex Smith, and Travis Garrison: they put on an outstanding festival. Looking forward to MOXsonic 2024!

I was humbled to be part of an excellent set, including music by Cort Lippe (performed by Doug Nottingham) and Jean-François Charles, among others.

Fun times playing super-new music tonight—as in, I was still tweaking stuff AFTER soundcheck—for the final concert of this year’s MOXsonic.

This was the day, 10 years ago, that I decided to make applied technology performance—where music majors can declare tech (laptop, turntables, etc.) as their primary instrument—a thing at UCM. It is one of the best and most important things I have done in my career.

Back on this grilling coffee thing. New secret technique: rotisserie basket FTW!

These are a lot less hot than the can would have you believe, but not bad.

Getting ready to start composing a new work for saxophone, violin, and piano commissioned by my friend Athanasios Zervas, here in my quaint Airbnb in Salt Lake City. Decided to stay for the weekend and treat it as a mini-residency. 👍

Had a blast today giving the keynote address at the Music Technology Pedagogy Summit at Westminster College in their gorgeous new facility! Great presentations and met some wonderful new friends. :) I understand it may be available online later.

I’m pretty stoked to have been invited to give the keynote address at this year’s Music Technology Pedagogy Summit on Friday. The presenters look amazing: should be a good one! Details here, including a virtual attendance option if you’re interested:

“Hope” is the thing with whiskers - That perches in the bowl - And sings the tune without the crunchies - And never stops - at all - (with sincere apologies to Emily Dickinson, who deserves better)
