This massive cardiac capacity fuels the horse’s powerful muscles and keeps oxygen flowing efficiently, allowing it to run at speeds over 50 km/h (30 mph) for sustained periods. The horse’s heart can beat as slowly as 30 bpm at rest and spike to over 200 bpm during peak exertion.

🐎 A horse’s heart is a powerhouse—weighing about 4 to 5 kilograms (roughly the size of a large melon) and built for endurance and speed. During rest, it pumps about 30 liters of blood per minute, but in full gallop, that output can surge to an astonishing 300 liters per minute.
