@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson “Nobody’s going to decide someday we’ll have fifty per cent women in any given campaign. We need to demystify things surrounding getting involved. You don’t have to just door knock, there are so many other ways to get involved.” - @TaushaMichaud

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson “We need to create the space. It’s not an easy life, and it’s a life that never took women into consideration. Everyone that’s been elected needs to change that and leave things better than how they found it.” - @anabailaoTO

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson Audience question: a lot of women count themselves out of politics very early. Do you have any suggestions on how we encourage young women in school to be involved in politics?

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson “Being a woman of color; I’m more likely to put my name forward because I know they’re looking for me. Policy to enact change is also important. Policies to level the playing field for women are really important.” - @QadiraJackson

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson “Gender is an issue in politics, and it’s really important to call it out and have these kinds of conversations. We need to make sure women have a safe place to speak, get involved and mentor one another.” - @anabailaoTO

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson On redefining failure: “Think of failure in a personal sense. Did people see your hard-work & achievements? I signed up 1000 people during COVID with 2 babies while running a law firm - I wasn’t ashamed of failure. It’s important what you do after you lose.” - @QadiraJackson

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson @Beatrice_Politi asks: what barriers can be removed to make it equitable for women? @TaushaMichaud: we should drop the Friday sitting federally. It’s absolute hell for women who don’t live in Ottawa or nearby. For people with families, it’s not a desirable lifestyle.

@anabailaoTO @TaushaMichaud @Beatrice_Politi @QadiraJackson “I would have moved faster. I got more and better endorsements than I’ve seen from a nomination. I also wasn’t at community events enough. Despite this, I was lucky enough to have more support than I realized.” - @QadiraJackson

@anabailaoTO “The big challenge of running a campaign is time & the financial commitment. With women, the biggest question I get is “how will I raise money”. I’ve never been asked that by men, who have no problem calling someone in their network - for women it’s different. - @TaushaMichaud

“I started working for the City of Toronto because I was very involved in the community. A part time job turned into a full time job, so 12 years after I arrived in Canada - at the age of 27 - I found myself running for office.” - @anabailaoTO
