I've written 4000 words on faith in a disenchanted world. On what faith means to me in the impossibility of theism. And where would I go when there is nowhere left to turn. Link ->

That said I think the onus is on the tech crowd for pretending that only technical details matter. None of that is even consequential outside machine learning. At least vitalist and adjacent techno skeptics know that and write about pertinent topics like labor, resources, etc.

Tbh k kind of detest how stupidly the discourse on gen ml technology split into vitalist essentialism and blind techno opportunism since the beginning. We could have gotten so much more interesting philosophy out of whats actually there!.

It's a wonderful feeling to know that all that wearying maleness is performative and there is no genuine or authentic version of it. No there there for masculinity, and it's wonderful, because it's all just pretending.

Paradoxically this information is freely available and is probably more relevant than the sophisticated and more developed apparatus say in China, but also more systematic than in slightly smaller countries. A nice example of neo liberal authoritarianism mixed on nationalism.

Theoretically all kinds of news from Russia about repression and censorship with technological aids, structured corruption and feudal local politics should be interesting to westerners as an example of where they're going in a few years. And yet.

Honestly, who knew that "digital nomad" will actually mean "influencer/full-time job but living in a car" instead of the fantasy of cosmopolitan labor always in motion.

Tbh it would have been so much better if Meillassoux used the term "domestication" instead of "correlation".

Oh the eternal fire stolen by Prometheus, the ever unraveling yet twinkling light of human reason, the infinite ladder above the void of speechless nature, or as Hume called it - mere habit.

Yet to see any serious intellectual work about the world without liberalism beyond opinion pieces that serve as obituaries. Two decades wasted on fantasies about varieties of techno solutionism (or fetishism). And now the time is running out to freely write about better future.

The existence of books and columns by Timothy Snyder has cured me from impostor syndrome and general feeling of ever feeling inadequate or ashamed for any sort of intellectual labor.

Must read essay by ⁦@TimothyDSnyder⁩ Putin is a cynical man, the founder of the post-truth politics in which Trump flourishes. But at the bottom of the deepest cynicism can often be found one very naive idea. Putin’s is that Russia has … 1/

The descent of the most dominant (economically, culturally, militarily) power of our age into some kind of fascism for profit along with neo liberal asset stripping is so banal, so second hand, so uninteresting, one wonders if it was always so consensual.

In a way I think tourism (itself desacralised) is the ~700 years old countervailing force to reverse desacralisation of art. You travel around, you visit a ruin, a church, a mosque, make pictures and move on. No clue about anything but the (often former) function.

It's truly baffling that the greatness of all religions rests upon human craftsmanship of aesthetic objects, the effects of which have been coopted for so long. Truly the best thing to happen to fine arts is that divorce from sacral.

Once again a day of holiday reminds me: if you want to think things, a rhythm of intermittent empty pauses in life is needed. Either doing nothing or staring at nothing at a distance is a great option, if you can afford it. A principle by which an artist studio works as well.
