Dawson Wright, the Blair man who pled “no contest” to attempting to sexually assault his neighbor last year, was sentenced this week to 10 to 16 years. Wright must serve at least five years minus credit for any time served before being eligible for parole.

Kevin Willis, who has 26 years in law enforcement including 8 as Washington County chief deputy sheriff before retiring two years ago, has announced that he plans to run for sheriff in the 2026 election. Sheriff Mike Robinson has said that he will not be running for re-election.

Grading has begun on the site for Blair Crossing, the 132-unit apartment complex planned south of the roundabout between Highway 133 and Highway 30 in south Blair. The project will be a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Rents will range from $1,100 to $1,900.

The Blair City Council will be asked to confirm Mayor Mindy Rump’s appointment of Jeremy Kinsey to serve as the city’s new police chief at next Tuesday’s meeting. Kinsey, who currently serves as operations commander with the La Vista Police Department, was one of three finalists.
