DBS presurgical evaluations often involve a multidisciplinary team, yet social workers are underutilized. Dr. Amanda Currie shares insights on the value of social workers in the DBS process and how other programs may benefit from these findings.

And at the end, you are left with a beautiful subthalamotomy and a happy patient who retained the same motor benefit that she had with the DBS lead active!

And during every iteration you make sure that they are not developing neurological deficits from lesioning the internal capsule. Take a look at this caught in 4K HD.

No need to place an extra probe, you can lesion right off the DBS lead. We can refine the shape of the lesion by using specific segments of the lead connected to the radio frequency system.

Explanting a DBS lead on someone was otherwise doing G R E A T?. Don't let an infection get in your patient's way!. Take a look at this case we just published in @tremorjournal of a patient who had an STN lead that we explanted. #NeuroTwitter.

New paper just dropped from the UF fellows 🚨🚨🚨. The social aspects of deep brain stimulation are complicated. What should you ask your patients and their families?. When should you ask them to see a social worker?. This and more by the @UFMDFellowship 🔥🔥🔥.

Getting DBS is also a socially complex process. Who is going to take care and watch for complications? . Who is going to drive them to all of those sweet programing visits?. Check out this paper from UF Fellows and Basil Gator's best friends:.👇.

About half of patients with NPH and parkinsonism have an abnormal DaT SPECT, but they do not have nigrosomal loss like in PD! . Is their parkinsonism from mechanical disruption rather than neurodegeneration? Check out this cool study!.

I know what you are thinking: 💲leep 💲tudies are super expensive and labor intensive . And they are. But these phenotypes are based off a standardized questionnaire📋. This is awesome for implementation in clinical studies! 🔥.
