This was a failed farm woodland payment creation scheme from 2001, mainly noble fir. Now fully restocked with Douglas Fir. Looking at the weather now wondering how long we have left of this 2021 planting season...🧐

“What we should like to see is the creation of great new permanent... forests of whatever species are found to flourish... and not even-aged plantations destined to be clearfelled... unbeautiful in themselves... out of harmony with the landscape” Sir Arthur Tansley

Beefsteak fungus (Fistulina hepatica) on an English Oak. Bad news - It causes a brittle brown rot. Good news - you can eat it! Not much help for the tree, though. #fungi #wildfood
