The symbolism was more important. He was venerated for this reason all over Europe and in the Orthodox church. The flag was not stolen from Genoa or anywhere else, it’s was a Catholic symbol which became common across Europe. Historical facts matter.

The red cross on the white banner was symbolic of the resurrection of Christ in medieval Catholic Europe. To the knight wearing the red cross, St. George, killing the dragon symbolised good defeating evil.

The Duchess of Kent became the first member of the Royal Family to convert to Catholicism since the Act of Settlement in 1701. That’s very significant in terms of the Royal Family. Who in the Royal Family should be the next convert?

The Recusants prove that the Mass is worth more than life itself. For decades, Catholics risked everything so Christ would still be present in England. They kept the flame of faith alive in the darkest hour.

Recusant families like the Howards and the Vauxes kept the faith alive. They lost lands, wealth, and status. but preserved Catholic worship in England until it could one day return openly.

When Elizabeth I outlawed the Catholic Mass, thousands of English Catholics became Recusants, those who refused to attend Anglican services. They risked prison, fines, torture, and death just to hear one hidden Mass. 🧵

Today: feast of the Pearl of York. “The Church is that one wherein the true word of God is preached, which Christ left to His Apostles, which the same Church hath always observed, the doctors preached, & Martyrs and confessors witnessed. This is the Church I believe to be true”
