Welcome to Hogwarts ⚡ (aka my classroom lol)

Welcome to Wonderland 💙🐇🎩❤️🐛 I have 127 freshman this year, and I am feeling so ready for year 11 😊

This all might seem trivial, teaching and education matter to me. I will continue to show up in every capacity, but what I can’t do is sit back and do nothing as people try to discredit our profession. We are doing the absolute best that we can.

The kids, without a doubt, are what keep me in this profession. Back in April, I moved to Elkton, and who helped me move? Who played games in my backyard and ate pizza? My kids. I am, wholeheartedly and proudly, Elkton now.

However, for the last year, I have been harassed, ridiculed on social media, and called in by various leaders because of ONE parent. As I grieved the loss of my mother and fell into such a void while trying to be the best teacher I could be, I have had this looming over me.

Yesterday, I put on my best acting skills as we read a short story. I turned the lights down low, changed my voice, used all kinds of props and music. And the kids? They were hooked. They were readers. They were magic.

I had one of the best teaching days yesterday only for it to ruined at the end because someone wants me fired and continues to try to slander my reputation.

Q4 A: I'm always looking for inspiration. Whenever I find myself feeling that sense of wonder, I think, "How can I recreate this in my classroom?" Recently, I played in Backyard Olympics, and now I have tons of ideas for games in the classroom! #tlap

Q3 A: I often look at the UDL guidelines for recommendations and ideas for providing more choice in both how students learn and how they demonstrate their learning. #tlap

Q2 A: I love sparking students' curiosity with the first slide on the board. When they walk in, they naturally look to the board area. How can you use that to capitalize on their curiosity? #tlap

Q1 A: To hook your students with surprise, consider using a flashbulb prop (a prop that will likely stick out in their memory even after the lesson!) I love using fake skeleton hands from Dollar Tree; for some reason, the kids ALWAYS want them! :) #tlap
