When women and girls are enslaved they don't have access to education, reproductive and maternal health services, healthcare, or economic development assistance initiatives, leaving them dependent on their exploiters.

Due to gender norms and dominant sex trafficking narratives, the victim is usually characterized as a young, vulnerable female. This can cause great damage to male and nonbinary victims who don't see themselves in this narrative and in result, don't report their exploitation.
