I fed ChatGTP some Eduqas English questions and the results were fascinating. Language P2. A lively guide to surviving teenage years and a talk about a hobby. Very interesting indeed.

Many teachers are working hard to implement Cold Call. Executed well, it's a thing of beauty, but increasingly I think schools should prioritise implementing a core set of all-student response techniques (e.g. Mini Whiteboards). Here's why I think they should come first. (1/10)

These sheets are my non-negotiable in the first lesson! I've lost count of the number of times this sheet has given me key insights into pupils and helped me support other teachers with key students. Massive help for building valuable relationships with students.

‼️TEACHERS WITH ADHD‼️ You might find, like me, that the approach of school holidays is a mixed blessing. We are tired like everyone else. But many people with ADHD really benefit from the regular routine of the school day, and when we are plunged into a break period… 1/

Some thoughts about the value of learning quotations in GCSE English Lit for @Team_English1 πŸ“š When the exams changed to closed book, this became the focus - hammering quotations. But I believe the quotations are just the bones of what students need to retain & understand🦴 🧡1/-

9. That’s why we have to end prosecuting parents for absenteeism. Yet in August, fines for non-attendance will rise. More people won’t be able to afford them. Prosecutions are likely to rise. Support @teamsquarepeg #3asks https://t.co/ae00ukmHwR pic Michelle Brittain

🎯 THINKING ABOUT AO1.1: RESPONSES 🎯 I have spent a lot of time this year thinking about what makes a good literature response. Having moved schools, and needing to improve GCSE outcomes immediately has developed my thinking. A 🧡 for @Team_English1 1/-

n my school we have 30 minute 'warmups' with our students before an exam. It's a chance to go over key points with them just before they go in. Here is my warmup for tomorrow's GCSE English Literature paper. Feel free to use/adapt etc @Team_English1 https://t.co/h2wXlwZGxT

1/ Are you thinking about developing your writing curriculum for next year? I think that teaching writing well over time is one of the most challenging things we do... 🧡

Why aren’t we reading more across the curriculum? There’s plenty of evidence that reading aloud to our pupils, raises outcomes for all, particularly those from a low starting point. I’ve done a short recording summarising the research so why aren’t we making the most of these

Explicitly teaching vocab at the start of a unit in English, and then continually revisiting it, has made a world of difference. Focused on application and understanding, rather than researching definitions. (Not everyone has sentence stems but these work well!)

My favourite vocabulary to teach (or consolidate) with Y11 in the run-up to exams... 1. At this point in the course, I like grouping words in clusters. The primary reason is that clusters of words can allow us to teach students how to make nuanced, deliberate choices...
