One of my favorite quirks of universities is the omnipresence of the mascot. If your mascot is a bear you better BELIEVE the meal plan will be called something like G.R.O.W.L. and the student union will be called The Den and the data management system is like HIBERNATE!

Somewhat related β€” I went to Villanova, a Catholic university, and all the coffee shops on campus were called "Holy Grounds," which is inspired. Our mascot was a wildcat but it was also God, kind of.

@EmmaJanePettit At OSU, they use "Pete's Pets" for the support dogs that are available to help comfort students.

@EmmaJanePettit Brown is like this with the bear but somehow more enthusiastically with Josiah Carberry, everyone's favorite professor of psychoceramics

@EmmaJanePettit Just stopping by to fold in school colors co-omnipresence in college naming/branding. First coffee is on me, Emma and friends, when you next visit our Brew & Gold Coffee Corner (just a short walk from the Lions' Den).πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ¦πŸŽ“β˜•οΈ

@EmmaJanePettit The restaurant in the Union at UW-Madison is called The Sett, which is a badger's den.

@katebellows I thought to myself "what are bear attributes?" So probably about a minute. A minute very well spent imo!

@EmmaJanePettit This makes me wonder about schools whose mascots are less, shall we say, traditional? How do you keep the theme going if your mascot is a geoduck or a banana slug?
