So, this happened, I interviewed Christopher Nolan!!
15 years ago I fell in love with cinema watching The Dark Knight, with Nolan’s work inspiring me and my writing on film - he’s the reason I love movies and so, this was a dream come true!

#Oppenheimer
There’s not enough talk about just how good Ving Rhames is in the
#MissionImpossible
movies. All this talk of Cruise and stunts, but Luther is very much also at the heart of the franchise
Turns out that
#Barbie
and
#Oppenheimer
is THE perfect double bill. Both are masterpieces from brilliant filmmakers working at the top of their game that reflect on the very nature of death and humanity. If you want a serious existential crisis, see these movies!
Arguably Denis Villeneuve’s magnum opus,
#DunePartTwo
is a masterpiece.
Throwing you right into the action, it is totally immersive, gripping, and ultimately devastating. Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya have never been better.
Just truly remarkable filmmaking - I’m in awe 👏
A blast from the start to the end,
@JamesGunn
has smashed it with
#TheSuicideSquad
🎉
Even more bonkers than you may have expected it to be, what took me in was just how much heart the characters have. Genuinely teared up at one point.
Also - so much rat representation 🐀💖
Greta Gerwig has done it again -
#Barbie
is absolutely sublime!
Immaculate production/costume design, an electric energy, plenty of heart, and pitch-perfect performances.
Ryan Gosling’s Ken deserves everything 💖
Expectations were high for
#SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse
but I loved every single minute - unable to take my eyes off it.
A feast for the senses, the dazzling music and animation help completely absorb you in an emotional story. Definitely will be one of the best of 2023 🕷️
Was an honour to interview the director who inspired my love of cinema and writing, Christopher Nolan (!!), about the extraordinary, haunting
#Oppenheimer
Been waiting years for this moment, working hard towards it, and I'm so proud of the piece ♥️
Saw the extraordinary
#Oppenheimer
again - my film of the year!
Loved hearing from the fantastic cast during the Q&A - Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt & Florence Pugh… moderated by Jamie Dornan who had everyone laughing.
Wonderful evening 🎥
Well
#MalcolmAndMarie
is absolutely sensational.
Zendaya and John David Washington are electric, the cinematography luscious, and the way it analyses art, criticism and so much more was fascinating.
Exhausted after the experience but just want to feel it all over again
Somehow was even more impressed by
#Oppenheimer
on a second watch - and I already thought it was a masterpiece!
Nolan has crafted such a beautifully rich movie, it’s one I will be returning to often, always discovering something new
Enjoyed the first two episodes of
#ECHO
which had an incredible (and violent) fight scene I want to watch again and again. The sound design is 🔥
The brilliant Alaqua Cox continually draws me in, but I found the storytelling and pacing shaky.
Excited to see the rest!

'A sensory and stimulating experience unlike any other,
#TENET
is the perfect welcome back to the magic of the big screen experience.'
As a huge Nolan fan, going to the press screening was a big career acheivement. Check out my thoughts of the film:
Excited to announce that next week I start my new job as Entertainment Editor at
@GamesRadar
working with
@totalfilm
and
@SFXmagazine
overseeing all the fantastic online content 📽️
Can't wait to start this new chapter and work with some incredible people - bring it on!
Guillermo Del Toro’s
#PinocchioMovie
is nothing short of a masterpiece. Simply sublime - my heart is still aching after watching it this morning and will for a long time
Two hours of pulse-pounding tennis, fierce sexual politics, tense psychological warfare, incredible performances, dripping sweat, and a banging disco score that goes hard from Reznor and Ross.
#ChallengersMovie
left me breathless. An instant favourite, I think I'm in love
The news is out there - I have made a magazine 🤯

During his introduction of today’s
#Oppenheimer
UK premiere, Christopher Nolan told the audience that the cast had left to prepare their picket signs for the actors’ strike “in the struggle for fair wages”, expressing solidarity to much applause ✊✊
Attention all freelance film, TV and gaming writers - we're putting together a monthly mailing list of (paid!) writing opportunities for Lowdown/Zavvi. If interested, please either DM me and

Just interviewed Christian Bale, the star of my favourite film, the one that got me into cinema (Dark Knight) - he was a delight!
Big moment for me personally… oh, and he liked my Batman jumper 🦇
Gorgeous evening at The Barbican admiring the work of Holly Waddington who designed these beautiful costumes for
#PoorThings
Just stunning! Plus it’s free so go, go, go ✨
Season two of
#OnlyMurders
In The Building is just as warm, funny, and razor sharp as the first.
The mystery had me intrigued from minute one and yes, I’m daring to say it, the costumes (especially those coats) are somehow even better. Truly a must watch TV show 👏
I’m so in awe of
#DuneMovie
I’m not sure I’ll ever find the words to articulate just how magnificent it is. It shook every fibre of my body and I felt gripped to the seat totally engrossed. Just wow.
The lack of accountability in this response is really poor. The fact that he says “I’m sorry that she feels this way” then calling Mulligan’s response “quite a leap” says it all 😬
I love Benedict Cumberbatch and I love cats, so naturally my hopes were high for
#TheElectricalLifeofLouisWain
But I was unprepared for just how achingly beautiful, bold and sensitive it would be. Instant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My face mask is now drenched in my tears.
The first two episodes of
#Hawkeye
do not miss 🏹
Just great fun with an intriguing central mystery, Hailee Steinfeld is already a fantastic addition as Kate Bishop, quickly forming an entertaining dynamic with Clint - although Lucky The Pizza Dog has my heart 🐶
Achieved a career goal today as I was asked to review Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker on
@BBCBreakfast
and
@bbc5live
today.
Never thought I would one day do this and it is still surreal I did, but was great fun and a career highlight.
✨Personal News✨
A week today my time at Zavvi will come to an end as I’ll be starting a new job very soon!
It’s been four years of highs and admittedly lows which has taught me a lot, from launching a magazine to fighting CGI dinosaurs in Malta. Time for a new adventure…

#TheHoldovers
poster ✨
Really love this movie - still can’t believe it’s not coming out in time for Christmas!
I loved Ghostbusters: Afterlife and that’s fine. Lots of people didn’t and guess what - that’s also fine.
That should be the end of it. No attacking those who gave a film you love a low review, and vice versa.
It’s upsetting to see that this is becoming more common.
Had a lovely time with
#WonkaMovie
which is simply delightful! A magical film well suited for the festive season - Timothee Chalamet is absolutely charming!
At last night’s special screening for
#ECHO
they had a Sign Language interpreter on stage for the Q&A and intro, which is the first time I’ve seen anything like that at an event.
Director Sydney Freeland also told the audience how all the cast and crew went to ASL classes 👏
A full circle emotional moment for me revealing this month’s covers of our magazine 🦇
The Dark Knight is what got me into cinema, so to have
#TheBatman
as the cover of a magazine I founded and run, featuring my exclusive interviews with cast and crew, I may have shed a tear.
Just watched
#JudasAndTheBlackMessiah
which was powerful in so many ways. Urgent filmmaking anchored by two fantastic performances. Kaluuya is simply magnetic but for me the stand out is Stanfield who was remarkably compelling.
Very much a must see!
Very excited to see our magazine in print for the first time ✨
Experimenting with what a printed edition would look like - and well, it looks fab! Maybe one day we will do a printed run for each issue 👀
John Hannah is a seriously underrated actor. Whenever he pops up in something you know you are in for a treat, as the opener of episode one of
#TheLastOfUsHBO
showed us.
Chilling. Simply chilling. The perfect start to the bleak series.
The
#GlassOnion
press conference was a delight! Daniel Craig shared that his favourite film is Bedknobs & Broomsticks. Benoit Blanc was confirmed to be gay. Kathryn Hahn had a Notting Hill moment. And I asked the last question to MVP Madelyn Cline 🔥
⏰ Set a reminder for Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature:

#NationalTheatreAtHome
Ahead of the new
#GuardiansOfTheGalaxy
movie I wrote a personal love letter to the emotional Vol. 2 which I see as a beautiful celebration of fatherhood (Yondu forever) ✨
This film helped me through a difficult time so thank you
@JamesGunn
♥️
One of the many mind blowing things about
#TENET
is that Robert Pattinson’s suave, sophisticated and sexy character is just called ‘Neil’. No surname. Just ‘Neil’ - not very mysterious 😂
Just found out my Nolan podcast was the 37th most popular film/tv pod this year in the UK - amazing considering the hundreds out there ☺️
Not too shabby for my first attempt at a pod with no sponsorship etc. Just me, some wonderful guests and my love of Nolan 💕
Hosted a film quiz with friends tonight, and for one round I photoshopped my cat Holmes into film stills.
This isn’t just the best thing I have done in quarantine, but the best thing I have done all year 😂
Been thinking a lot about
#ShangChi
and I’m still taken aback by how amazing the cast are.
Sure the film is beautifully shot, emotionally complex, action-packed and hilarious - but the real heart lies with the brilliant ensemble cast who completely absorb us into this world
Round two with
#AllOfUsStrangers
which stunned me once again.
A screening made even more special though with a Q&A with Paul Mescal and a very emotional Andrew Scott, who shed tears on-stage talking about this incredible movie 💖
Had such a fascinating chat with Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton (!!!) yesterday about the brilliant
#MayDecember
- one of my fave films of the year.
You can listen to our full conversation now on the
@totalfilm
podcast >>
Really enjoyed chatting about the wonderful The Edge Of Seventeen tonight with some film friends - really love this movie and feel it’s quite underrated. Don’t understand why it’s not spoke about in the same leagues as the likes of Booksmart and Eighth Grade 🤷🏻♀️
Yes. The dress I wore on BBC Breakfast this morning is inspired by my girl Cher from Clueless 💅
Had a lovely time popping over to the studio to chat
#GoldenGlobes
- mentioned two of my fave wins from the night, Michelle Yeoh and Jennifer Coolidge!!
Was asked for my Best Films Of The Decade. Can’t decide but this is what I’m currently feeling:
1. La La Land
2. Mad Max: Fury Road
3. Inception
4. Interstellar
5. Arrival
6. The Social Network
7. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
8. The Irishman
9. Birdman
10. Avengers: Endgame
Saw
#BrosMovie
again at
#LFF
because it is just THAT good. This time with the public who applauded and cheered just as much as the press did earlier this week. What a crowd. What a movie!
Thought
#TheFirstOmen
was terrific and I’m truly traumatised - it is GRIM and I’m shocked it’s rated 15 here
Beautifully directed and acted (Nell Tiger Free!!) this horror will be staying with me for a long time
Found Kenneth Branagh’s
#Belfast
very affecting. A very personal project from the director, it’s charming, organic and heartfelt.
Although The Troubles is an ominous presence, I enjoyed that the focus was on the community and family. Such amazing performances too
#LFF
With every minute of
#TheLostCity
I could feel my obsession with the movie growing… it was just as charming, funny and adventurous as I dreamt it would be ✨
The most fun I’ve had in the cinema for a long time!
Thought
#GodzillaMinusOne
was great but I must admit, I also enjoyed the adrenaline rush from choosing the optimum moment - Godzilla using his heat ray - to tell a guy off who was filming the final act, completely ruining his video at the best moment. Don’t film in a cinema!
Attended a lovely screening and drinks reception with Guillermo Del Toro on Monday - he blew me away with his knowledge, passion, and great handshake!
Also saw the first 40 minutes of
#PinocchioMovie
, played with the puppets, and spoke with the animators. Incredible evening!
