Here's the NYT story: worth a read.
nytimes.com

An alternative view to the USSS breaking news. The 35 mile thing is absolutely correct. But the allegation that Jim Lewis is “government propaganda” is so laughable I almost didn’t bother to refute it. Jim is, completely and undoubtedly, his own man.
I wrote up a quick blogpost why this SIM farm story is bogus and why you journalists should feel embarrassed for not questioning such obvious propaganda. https://t.co/juWXx9HUqm

But really, this is bad....hoping tomorrow brings some in-depth reporting on what actually happened and how @SecretService found it.
The Secret Service dismantled a network of more than 300 SIM servers and 100,000 SIM cards in the New York-area that were capable of crippling telecom systems and carrying out anonymous telephonic attacks, disrupting the threat before world leaders arrived for the UN General

So no, you will not see me on TikTok tomorrow. But I will be listening hard to the new owners. Tell me how you're stopping the free flow of propaganda. Tell me how you're preventing kids from getting addicted. Then I'll launch my own account with a smile. And maybe a dance.

No Data to Beijing: Looks somewhat promising. "Purpose-built cloud environment" run by @Oracle in the US, 80% US ownership, and a largely US board. Good signs.

No Manipulation: Maybe. The deal gives Oracle a *copy* of the algorithm, which it will "retrain" on US users' data. But TBD on whether the app still only allows pro-Chinese content.

Now we know more: let's grade the #tiktok deal. I wanted the app to 1. Stop manipulating users and 2. Stop sending data to Beijing. Did I get what I want?
