Honored to contribute to this issue of Glaucoma Today!
Health disparities are driven by social and economic inequities, including economic stability, food, education, and the #healthcare system itself, and they affect the health and well-being of our patients with #glaucoma. https://t.co/2rSuqRSdSv

I hope ya understand these institutions thrive on us being in a constant state of survival. You can’t effectively advocate for your needs when you’re in a trauma response

Today, let us remember Martin Luther King as he was: A Black radical anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, revolutionary Christian internationalist who was deemed an enemy of the State and assassinated for his radical work. Just about everything else is a lie.

I see her see my badge, and she wrinkles her forehead. She mumbles to herself “oh…you’re not…” I say, “No, I am not 🤨” and she scurries away. Of course she doesn’t apologize. #ExistingWhileBlack

The first 3 things I saw on this bird app today: vid of another unarmed Black man murdered by police, another Black woman died during childbirth from neglect, and a white male is suing a med school b/c he feels discriminated against for being a white male. Lemme get off here.

My best friend died giving birth last night at Centinela hospital due to medical neglect. She and her bf complained for hours to the nurses that she could not feel her legs and they told her they could not call the doctors bc they would get upset. Now my best friend is dead bro

we can talk about what happened to Keenan Anderson at the hands of police without sharing the video. I’m mentally and emotionally drained by seeing videos of our death being shared like it’s a Pinterest recipe.

The STAT news piece that details disproportionate dismissal of Black residents and @DrMitoOxPhos article about being a Black scientist both hit close to home. My @AcadMedJournal piece on my experience in academia is just as true now as when I wrote it. 😞 https://t.co/oPhdOFubXN

This is a great article that highlights a lot of the discrimination and hostile work practices that many Black residents face. I’ll summarize some of the most salient points in a quick thread. https://t.co/etqa1YQvMm

The suicide rate among physicians is the highest among any profession, and more than double that of the general population. Nearly every doctor graduates from residency with some degree of PTSD, and no one wants to talk about it.

In the black community, New Year’s Day used to be widely known as 'Hiring Day' or 'Heartbreak Day', because enslaved people spent New Year’s Eve waiting, wondering if their owners were going to rent them out to someone else, thus potentially splitting up their families...
