I’ve wanted a dedicated Steam Machine since their previous attempt at home consoles. But the prices were too high for the specs at the time to merit buying one over a console and gaming on a PC.

Valve should sell the Steam Machine as a loss leader. The price should match or undercut current consoles for buyers to consider it. They could easily make up profits with users buying games on Steam. Do they need to do this? Of course not. It would just be nice to have.
