There are high school coaches that are more knowledgeable and develop better than college coaches.
Some of those coaches are only in those positions because of who they know.
Next school year, I challenge ALL coaches to go to sporting events outside of your season that your athletes participate in.
1) it means a lot to the athletes to see you take interest in them outside the sport you coach
2) it builds school culture
A lot of coaches preach this “We is greater than me” but don’t apply that mindset when if comes to the athletic dept.
If you keep athletes from doing other sports because you only care about your sport, you aren’t modeling the same behavior you expect from your athletes.
When I came to my first collegiate track practice with my state champion shirt on an upperclassman told me “We don’t care about your HS accomplishments. Everyone here was a state champion”. Humbled lol
Recruiting 101: If you think the amount of attention you receive dwindles when you commit, wait until you actually sign. If you want attention as a college player, you must earn it. Your offers, ranking, stars, final 3 or 4 will be irrelevant to everyone in the locker room.

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter. I’m glad to announce my new position as the Athletic Director at W.J. Keenan High School. 💙💛

reminds me that some athletes look at sports as being their only way out because some where along the way, an adult led them to believe that was their only option. Kids have to know they are more than just an athlete.
I’m a new school coach.
My workouts and macrocycle is based off science, research, trial and error…
not off a workout my coach did with me when I was in high school 🙂
As an AD, I attended at least one event of each sport at the school I served.
As a coach, I’m going to continue that tradition at SHS because I saw that it matters to kids when you are supporting ALL athletics and not just the sport you coach.

Sumter High would like to Welcome Mironda Scott (
@EducatorMNS
) to Sumter High School where she will serve as the Head Girls Track Coach, Head Girls Cross Country Coach and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach beginning in the 2021-2022 school year.
I respect football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, wrestling, tennis, golf and every other sport that takes place outside of track.
I actually WANT my athletes to be multisport athletes.
The problem is… I expect the same in return.
I have been holding this back but....
I can’t wait to get started at
@sumtergamecocks
Traditionally, we BEEN a powerhouse and we are going to go to even greater heights next year 🤞🏽💛
When I was an athletic administrator, I always kept some polos and school merch on hand so when I hired new coaches, they would have something right away.
It showed them I cared and I was ready for them to be part of our family.
Many coaches wants to JUST coach talented kids. I love ALL the kids, from the most talented to the least. All I ask from the athlete is to give me their best.
I have had to build everywhere I have coached. Never had the pleasure of walking into a ready-made program and that’s why I think so highly of myself in my field.
What happened to college coaches reaching out directly to the high school coaches?
Maybe I am old, but I found out nearly all of my interest and offers through my high school coach.
My dad is a 🐐
Since 2011 when I became a mom, my parents have supported my coaching career. Track meets are long!!! And they never hesitated to step in. My mom passed in 2015, and my dad hasn’t missed a beat in his grandpa duties.
He is the reason I am a coach.
@heymrsbond
I felt like this last week. It’s not blatant disrespect but…. I just think that if I took the time to make this engaging lesson and I’m actually SPEAKING, that they should pay attention. It’s almost like I don’t exist to some of them so I end up teaching to the ones that do… 😕
Sumter truly lost a coaching legend and an even better person. I never got greeted by him with anything but a smile. Prayers for Coach Ron McBride and his family 🕊

Today for us Role Model day where we are to dress like an inspirational educator. I’m dressed in my
@SCSTATE1896
shirt to honor the best teacher I ever knew...My mother! Educator for 30+ years and graduate of SC State! Shout out to Turner Hall 📚
I love my husband to death. I knew of him in HS and I thought he was the cockiest person I have ever seen.
We are celebrating our 1 year anniversary today 🤍🫶🏽

A coworker told me something so real today:
As long as you know you did everything you could, don’t worry about seeking gratitude or accolades from others.

Young coaches - you may think it’s cool to have your athletes call you by your first name, but it’s not. That fine line between coach and athlete is there.
Happy birthday 🎉 to my amazing 11 year old, Syd the Kid!
Outside of athletic accomplishments, she is truly a talented and smart individual!
Hard to believe she will be in middle school next school year 🥺🥺

T&F is the only spring sport where coaches are expected to adjust to club sports. Now that 7on7 is in the mix…well it’s tough.
I have made it work in the past with ACTIVE communication, but at the end of the day, if you aren’t here for the training… how can you be successful?
Y’all old coaches hate when these kids do anything on social media. Let them post their graphics and flex.
I promise if Twitter was a thing in HS, I would have done the same thing.

With only 6 athletes, our boys placed 2nd overall at the Class AAA state meet! They have worked hard all year and truly embody what it means to

Thank you for a great season!!!

Respect the small, underfunded schools that are killing in athletics and academics. They get it out the mud, for real.
- limited facilities
- lack of parental presence
- poor or out-of-date equipment
- little technology
All that and more... still producing champions
It is saddening that other HBCUs can’t just be happy for us.
If we ain’t in it, best believe I’m pulling for the HBCU that has a shot.
I loved seeing NC A&T perform at NCAA outdoor… even then being our rival. Some things are bigger than that…especially when it comes to HBCUs
I was told today I was biased toward the sport that I coached, and I responded with “Do you say the same same to ADs who are also football coaches?” .... *left on read*
Before it was the All-American Track Classic….
Before it was the Bojangles Track and Field Classic…
It was Taco Bell Track and Field Classic! This was like running at State!
Respect coaches who have to coach AND teach full course loads.
It’s real easy to sit back and judge when you deal with the kids ONLY in the athletic capacity.
Yeah, I’m shooting. Debate me.
Syd the Kid with a huge PR today to finish 5th overall in the discus.
This is her first year competing in this event! Looking forward to the shot put tomorrow!
💛🙏🏽 Today was rough for me emotionally. My job is demanding and at times, unsympathetic.
Today, on my mother’s birthday, she would have been proud that I didn’t spazz when I had every right.
Six years later and not a day goes by.
The power of prayer and growth 🌱
Extremely blessed to witness history with these teams. Super talented athletes and coaches! Thank you to the student-athletes and coaches for your hard work as well as the parents and fans for your endless support this season!

I feel like every principal and assistant principal should have to teach in the classroom every five years to keep them in touch with how it feels to be a classroom teacher.
Story: a girl at school asked my daughter what she was going to be for Halloween and she said the Incredibles. The girl said “ but you aren’t white.” Syd said “well, black people are incredible, too” 😂
The development, the growth, and the trust that this athlete has is amazing! Super proud of
@simoneEWells1
for hitting a HUGE PR of 16-6.5 in the long jump and placed 5th overall in the middle school division!

Ten years ago, God saw it fit for me to be a parent to an amazing girl who challenges me every day to be the best parent I can be.
Happy Birthday to my favorite athlete, Syd the Kid! 🎉🎉🎉
Excited that my daughter is a two time All-American 🇺🇸
My dad made the comment “Like mother, like daughter”
I almost forgot I was a 3x All-American in Taekwondo.
