These “peace talks” often fall apart because they are negotiated in secret, heavily politicized, and designed for media optics—not justice or long-term stability.

How does the government expect communities that are still burying their dead to accept the reintegration of a man like Turji?. Has anyone asked for their consent—or is this just another political performance?.

But the deal raises urgent questions:. – Can it be sustained?.– What justice exists for victims of Turji’s past killings?.– Will there be any truth-seeking or healing for affected communities?.

Cleric Musa Yusuf (Asadus-Sunnah), who led the mediation, said residents of Shinkafi begged them to intervene so they could access their farms. The clerics praised Tinubu, NSA Nuhu Ribadu, Gov. Dauda Lawal & Senator Shehu Buba for backing the peace talks.

If they were truly serious, they would push for meaningful policies and reforms that align with a working counterterrorism strategy something that could actually reduce the violence and begin to restore peace.

What frustrates me sometimes is that the political will alone isn’t enough. This conflict has been deeply politicized from the federal level down to the states. Many of those speaking on it seem more concerned with political advantage than real solutions.
