No shops, no services, not enough buses, a rising population and expensive homes. Doveridge residents in southern Derbyshire accept the general need for more housing but they have had enough and feel disproportionately targeted.

Two major appeal decisions in Derbyshire this week and two very different outcomes for significant public opposition campaigns. Swadlincote Incinerator approved despite opposition from thousands. David v Goliath victory in 400-home Matlock Wolds appeal.

The controversial Black's Head sculpture is set to return to public display in Ashbourne five years after it was unlawfully removed, hidden by a councillor, and eventually stored in Matlock. This saga caused international headlines in June 2020.

Lots to go at in this one but the takeaway for me is the huge benefit of a reporter being in the room. At this authority I am 99 times out 100 the only reporter present and all of this coverage would go missed, full validation of the need for the LDRS.

For 2 months I have received online trolling when reporting on Hillingdon Council. Now, the council are making similar “bias” complaints - because they don’t like my scrutiny. Last week, I was blacklisted by the council - who now refuse to engage with me👇

A slim sample, but 54.5% prefer Option B for local government reorganisation in Derbyshire - which would split Derbyshire into north and south, with Amber Valley in the south with Derby, Erewash and South Derbyshire.

My poll on the three LGR options put forward by Derbyshire's districts, boroughs and Derby is still live in the thread below:.

🗺️.Three local government reorganisation options have been put on the table by Derbyshire's districts, boroughs and Derby City Council, all of which involve a two-council split between north and south. This would see the city, county and all borough & district councils scrapped.

The north/south line would see Ashbourne, Denby, Duffield and Ilkeston in the south, while Belper and Heanor and Ripley would be in the north

NEW. A potential local government reorganisation option put forward by Reform at Derbyshire County Council would see a north/south split which would split both the Dales and Amber Valley

Nigel Farage said he would not back any local government reorganisation scheme but Derbyshire's controlling Reform group aim to submit a bid. They look to back a "very similar" north/south two-council split as those pitched by districts/boroughs/city.
