Today's email from @educationweek management says a union will prevent us from talking with colleagues about our weekends and sick kids. 🫠🫠. We're excited to form a union AND maintain our strong working relationships!.

@educationweek Our efforts to unionize have been and will continue to be thoughtful and respectful, thanks to our incredible colleagues. We’re dismayed that @educationweek leadership hasn’t returned the favor.

@educationweek Senior leaders have falsely said a union will compromise EdWeek’s independence, drive a wedge between employees and their managers, and make false promises it can’t keep. In reality, a union will advocate for a more transparent and equitable workplace for all.

@educationweek Management has put up posters around our office space promoting anti-union messages and spreading misinformation about the bargaining process.

@educationweek Upper management at EdWeek has sent our staff anti-union emails every few days since we went public. Employees have also received anti-union letters in the mail. And we all sat through a 25-minute captive audience meeting earlier this month.

@educationweek To support their anti-union point, EdWeek leadership quoted Shirley Chisholm, the first Black Congresswoman. She supported workers and labor unions—but EdWeek invoked her name to do the opposite.

Yesterday’s email to all @educationweek staff from a senior leader argues that colleagues won’t have a seat at the table if we form a union. This is false—every member of our bargaining unit will weigh in on our collective priorities and vote to ratify a contract with management.

Since we went public, we’ve been dealing with a barrage of false assertions, misinformation, and deeply disrespectful anti-worker rhetoric. We are excited to vote in our election soon so we can support each other and advocate for a bright future for @educationweek.

@s_e_schwartz @educationweek @MarkALieberman Organizing has given "us a sense of community with our coworkers in a way that we might not have had before." We are disappointed that @educationweek management has refused to voluntarily recognize us, but we are looking forward to the upcoming election. #UnionStrong ✊.

@s_e_schwartz @educationweek .@educationweek employees have a “desire to have more of a concrete voice in shaping our workplace, and our experience doing this work,” said @MarkALieberman. We want—and deserve—a seat at the table.
