Brexit, the US and now Australian elections - how did the opinion polls get it so wrong? Is this the result of reliance on cheap automated technology, or are we forgetting the importance of the human element to elicit honest and accurate responses?

Over the weekend in Australia, the federal election results took everyone by surprise. In the lead-up to voting, the polls predicted an easy win for Labor with 51:49 on a two-party preferred vote.
