Monitoring pollutant levels helps measure progress toward the EU’s zero-pollution and climate-neutral goals. Although the data covers only large industrial sources that meet reporting thresholds, it shows significant improvements across Europe.

In the past decade, Europe saw a major drop in industrial air pollution. Heavy metals like cadmium, mercury, and lead, along with sulphur oxides (SOₓ) and particulate matter (PM₁₀), dropped by more than 75%.
