The adoption of the #OceanPact is important because we are already starting negotiations on future budgets. Having the Pact helps us show why the ocean is important and why we need to fund.

We have one clear alignment and helps us show partner countries what our priorities are. Rigaud also talks about the High Seas Treaty, calling on all nations to sign to ratify and how SDG 14 (Life Below Water) is heavily underfunded. We need to have new finance, new actors. .

The last speaker of this session, Carole Rigaud @eu_partnerships is focusing on the EU Ocean Pact & International Partnerships. This is the first time we have a long-term EU policy that says why the ocean is important & provides a roadmap, linking internal & external components.

Misiga also announced the development of a Research & Innovation Strategy (it will be a participative process) and a drive to support #ECOPs.

In the #EUOceanPact ocean observations/ocean observation systems are a key theme. Its not just about enabling more ocean observations to be collected but putting that information to use.

Misiga also speaks about deploying solutions through @OurMissionOcean, capacity building, and other factors key to actual implementation to enable society to respond to the challenges and move forward with solutions. .
