In the State Senate and in my role as a Budget Chair, I’ve supported raising the minimum wage, increasing our affordable housing supply, expanding access to abortion and healthcare, and more. #orpol #orleg

As a physician, a mom, and one of Oregon’s chief budget writers, I know that investing in preventative care, saving for education, and balancing a budget can make all the difference for families. I have always been and always will be a champion for working families. #orpol #orleg

Congrats @SenSaraGelser for passing #NCSLSummit resolution to pass bipartisan federal law to protect kids in congregate care. Sen Gelser Blouin’s hard work on this has resulted in big changes to shutter horrible facilities claiming to help vulnerable kids

First story like this I’ve heard but certainly won’t be the last. Chilling example of how conscience laws allowing docs to deny care inconsistent with their beliefs can lead to serious consequences for completely routine health care.

Robert Livingston’s The Conversation core teaching: “…the heart of racism is power and the soul of racism is fear, with the heart striving to protect the soul.” Remembering this helps us address fears and reassure that power is not a zero sum game. #antiracism

Improved access to affordable, quality childcare critically important for child well-being, economic development, decreasing family stress, etc. Studies suggest national loss of >$57B/year due to inadequate childcare.

Extensive conversations @HuntEarlyEd #ECPA22 about expanding access to #childcare incl provider education, increased pay esp for in-home providers. All of Oregon qualifies as infant/toddler childcare desert. Nationally >40% in-home providers quit BEFORE pandemic, then more during

Dr. Jack Shonkoff, @HarvardCenter for the Developing Child reminds us we have to allow failure, new ideas, longer term outcome measures in early childhood interventions just as we do in business innovation.
