Helping parents of children with extreme picky eating find peace at the table with the STEPS+ approach.

If you didn’t know, “re-presentation of expelled food”, ie., often vomit, is a behavioral (ABA) method used in feeding clinics by therapists while they restrain children. Criminal charges filed here & yet no one blinks an eye when the same is done under the guise of “therapy”.
One teacher allegedly told the boy that if he vomited, he would be required to eat what he threw up. Police said another teacher provided a tray for the boy to throw up on. And then another teacher gave him a spoon to use.

Thank you @ASHAAdvocacy for standing by our ethics & supporting ALL of your members and the public we serve. Pulling the convention out of Texas was the right move. @TexasTribune

This resonated with me on a professional level. The medical community, therapists, & clinicians all need to take care with our words—they can truly harm an already exhausted, traumatized parent who is doing the best they can. Parents are doing the hard work & need support!

THIS! And when your kid eats only the rolls at Thanksgiving dinner, LET IT GOOOOO! Holiday meals are meant to be times of joy & togetherness, & worrying about what kids are eating-or not eating- diminishes those things and can cause stress, for everyone. Happy Thanksgiving!

How does our reaction to a behavior inform what happens next? If a child can’t do something (yet!), we need to facilitate comfort and give them space to grow.

So happy to contribute to this piece on manners! Wonder why your kid can’t sit at the table or never uses utensils (or a napkin)?

Parents and educators are under tremendous pressure to teach kids "healthy eating." Families and schools are better off creating an environment that fosters a healthy *relationship* with eating.

Food insecurity is a huge problem in our country, and children suffer. This is a fantastic use of our tax dollars! "The plan will provide up to 34 million kids about $375 each to buy food for the roughly 10 weeks they are out of school in the summer." https://t.co/TDDsRqqERf
