Astute users of the Hourly Electric Grid Monitor may note that reported demand reached 776,575 megawatthours on July 13, 2020. We are confident that was reported in error; again, these data are preliminary and are posted as reported to us.

The previous hourly demand record for the continental United States was 745,020 megawatthours on July 15, 2024. But note that previous hourly record was surpassed four times yesterday, at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm ET.

This was the primary generation fuel mix when we broke the record yesterday:. Natural gas: 45% .Coal: 17% .Nuclear: 13% .Solar: 11% .Wind: 5% .Hydro: 5%. Some other sources were also in play. 👇

The Hourly Electric Grid Monitor uses data from our EIA-930 survey, which is preliminary data, published as reported to us. The values could change. And yesterday's record is at risk of being broken again with continued hot weather across the United States
