Allen’s plan is to use what he has learnt to lead on his own systematic review of student nurse perspectives of the role of a mental health nurse (specifically capturing the cohort trained under the revised Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) proficiencies).

After spending 14 years in clinical practice, Allen joined Edge Hill University in October 2023. He has enjoyed participating in research as a new academic and is keen to lead on his own projects in the future.

Through Allen’s involvement with these pieces of research, he has been invited to contribute towards a systematic review of palliative care within mental health settings, and another systematic review looking at the effects of migration on mental health and wellbeing.

The manuscript was submitted last week commencing Monday 11 November and was about mental health problems experienced by academic staff. The team are due to submit another systematic review relating to patient perspective of safety during admission to mental health services.
