On your 2025 federal return (filed in 2026): • If you paid $28k in CA state tax → you deduct $28k • If you paid $35k in NY state + city tax → you deduct $35k • If you paid more than $40k → you’re capped at $40k This is personal income tax you paid — important caveat too,
