6/ The developers who thrive won’t be the ones clinging to old definitions of quality. They’ll be the ones who adapt—who embrace AI and redefine what good code looks like in an AI-first world.

5/ So where does this leave developers?. I think our value shifts from writing code to:.🔹 Translating specs for AI.🔹 Defining KPIs for software solutions.🔹 Designing tests to enforce those KPIs.

4/ What does “code quality” even mean in a world where AI reads your code, not you?. What does “maintainability” look like if we can just ask an AI to explain or refactor a function?.

3/ This is how compilers work. They transform your beautifully structured code into machine code—which is ugly but functional. Your CPU doesn’t care about readability. And if AI is writing the code… should we?.

2/ Sure, there are cases where hyper-optimised code is essential—like high-frequency trading, where nanoseconds matter. But for most applications? If the code works within the required time, why does it matter how it looks?.

1/ As a developer, I’ve spoken to hundreds of companies and devs about how AI will impact coding jobs. A common pushback?. "AI can't match human code quality.". But I have to ask… does that even matter? 🤔.
