@emilynussbaum Welcome to Canada where we’re taxed to death. 55% of my income goes to federal and provincial taxes. I pay the following on goods & services: 7% PST (provincial) 5% GST (federal) And the following on clear gasoline: 38% tax 11% carbon tax

I’m currently on vacation in Canada, where college tuition runs <9K (in American $), everyone has health insurance & maternity leave lasts a year. Also, abortion is both legal & publicly funded

@emilynussbaum People are so touchy! 55% of my income (probably more) goes to taxes. I didn’t say 55% goes to “income taxes”!!

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum And I suppose by your profile picture, you live in assisted living, collect soup can coupons, and take daily handouts at the food bank? And usually the most you pay is 34%> I know, I do. Haha. So if you are +34% once again you are doing fine. Kickback conservatives so funny.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum How are you paying 55% in income taxes unless your making over 260K per year. That's 1% of the working population. Also, why wouldn't you shelter as much as you can in an RRSP so that you're not paying 55% ?

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum If you pay 55% on fed/prov taxes there’s no need to complain as you must be making an insane amount of money. I make 2.5x minimum wage and have a 17% income tax

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum And you pay 0% in health premiums. Taking US federal, state, and municipal taxes plus health premiums (depending on the state) the gap is often not material.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum Thank you for sharing this. I live in 🇺🇸 but have traveled internationally. Many here think the grass is greener in other countries, but don’t have all of the facts.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum You seem to live and type on the internet through a high tech device just fine... High taxes and high Wellfare systems go hand in hand. Because you know... Somehow it's got to be paid. I rather pay taxes than have a surprise bill of 10s of thousand$ at a broken leg or similar.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum If you're paying 55% your income must be pretty high.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum 55% of your income does not go on federal and provincial taxes - this is straightforwardly untrue, even if you were in the top tax bracket.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum According to the Fraser Institute, TAX-Free day for 2022 is on June 15. So, whether 50 or 55%, it's still a lot.

@DutchHockeyMom @emilynussbaum No. It doesn't. You are lying. Unless you make enough that the first 220k is trivial. In which case I suspect you A) can afford it. B) would not be wasting time on twitter
