Biomechanics/motor control question! We may all agree that walking is a "voluntary" movement. But would you classify the muscle contractions that occur during walking as "voluntary"? Seems different than the "voluntary" contraction of my biceps to flex my elbow.

Is there a name for the phenomenon of a series of papers citing only a recent reference, not the original source, for some statistic? I'm sure I'm guilty of it, but it's very frustrating when doing a lit search!!

Thanks everyone for the very helpful tips! I ended up saving as a text file then re-opening in Excel with space and tab delimiters. That worked quite well, thank goodness!

I have to mention this...one of my undergrad students manually entered 1200 data values in an Excel file but added the units text (e.g., 12 mm) at the end of every number. Now you can't perform calculations with the numbers. 🤦‍♂️

Excited to share Kalyn Kearney's (@KalynKe62975129) first #biomechanics and #MachineLearning paper! Available at @PLOSONE at https://t.co/QCAG2O3n1h. This is the beginning of our work toward rapidly estimating subject-specific, Hill-type muscle parameters from sparse datasets.
journals.plos.org
Objective Hill-type muscle models are widely employed in simulations of human movement. Yet, the parameters underlying these models are difficult or impossible to measure in vivo. Prior studies...
