I asked for “A list of submissions made to the ministry on the Regulatory Standards Bill consultation that the Ministry considered to be generated by AI (or “bots”) or otherwise were considered not to come from real people or organisations”. Here is the reply:

Bizarre! Nicole McKee in favour of loosening restrictions on real semi-automatic rifles but wants tighter restrictions on Te Pati Māori pointing finger guns🙄.

Government members on Finance and Expenditure Committee just voted to use an AI bot to read submissions on the Regulatory Standards Bill🙄. Turns out democracy under this government is real people making submissions and computers reading them. 👎.

Is David Seymour misleading the house? He's saying one thing, and the official records say another.

Retrospective legislation is not unknown - but I have never heard of legislation to change the law applicable to a case that has been ongoing for several years, let alone one that does it in favour of big banks and against the interests of consumers.

The key takeaway is this: this is a genuine step backwards for women in work. The Govt. have made it clear they want to spend their money elsewhere. Not on fairer pay for women, but on tax breaks for landlords, tobacco companies and their other donor mates.

Let's use this social worker example again, if you looked at Oranga Tamariki for example, it's all social workers. You need to look outside of the industry to compare.

The next thing they've done is, in terms of comparisons, they want comparisons to be with the same employer. This makes no sense.

For example, probation officers, 68% women, is no longer a female dominated industry.

The first thing that the Govt. have done is change the threshold of what it means to be a female dominated industry from 60% to 70%. Additionally, that industry now needs to be dominated for 10 years.

So it's a really important task to go through and look at industries like social work and look at the qualifications they need, the hours they work, the stresses on themselves and their families and compare it to similar male dominated industries.

Now it's a pretty tough job to go through and analyse that. But we know that women dominated industries are paid on average and in general lower than men.

Nicola Willis seems to be stuck in 1972. What pay equity is, is when two people have SIMILAR jobs, jobs that have similar qualifications, hours, stresses, risks etc, they should also be paid the same regardless of whether that industry is male or female dominated.

Equal pay is NOT pay equity. Equal pay is when two people, one a man, one a woman, get paid the same for exactly the same job. That's been in place since 1972 and of course isn't going anywhere.

It’s back to Wellington to oppose this nasty government. Here is a quick break down of why the pay equity changes are so bad🤮.
