. Perhaps there's some name-related connection, as there was a branch of my dad's family that owned a small brewery and at least one pub in the Midlands in Victorian times, and my great-aunt Clarice ran The Raven Inn, Kidderminster in the 1950s-60s. Here's to them all! 🍻.

. Another St Arnold (of Soissons, d.1087) is also a patron saint of beer as he saved lives by encouraging people to drink beer instead of water during an outbreak of water-borne disease. His feast day is 14th August . 🧵

Today, 18th July, is the feast day of St Arnold /Arnulf of Metz (d.645 CE), patron saint of brewers thanks to his timely conjuring of beer from an empty mug for some thirsty pilgrims. I shall be toasting my namesake in celebration of this miracle later . 🧵

A lovely review from @Joyzineuk of last month's show at Deptford Lounge. It was really marvellous to play for such a diverse and engaged audience, and to do a bit of medieval myth-busting into the bargain!.#music #medieval #library.Photos: Estie Joy Booley.

"Books smell. musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be smelly.". - Rupert Giles. (BnF F-Pn fr.846)
