In Waterloo region, ~ 40 homeless men in a 26 bed shelter were even more homeless (!!) when it closed May 1. There is, literally, nowhere to sleep etc. except outside. Bill 6 will jail and/or fine them for existing. That’s Ontario’s plan. Boo.

My op-ed for @TorontoStar: when it comes to encampments, @fordnation is looking south of the border when he should be looking west. Ontario is importing failed American policies to punish homelessness, while Manitoba is doing what works: housing people.

While Manitoba is instructing us on a "Made in Canada" approach to homelessness that works, Premier Ford is modelling dysfunctional policies championed by an irrational American president.

We all knew it would be a disaster. A government that bases decisions on a handful of angry neighbours never satisfied until people disappear and not on evidence is determined to fail communities in need.

Two months after Somerset West Community Health Centre closed its injection site, neighbours say they've witnessed a surge in public drug use.

This is the kind of homelessness policy @fordnation aims to import from America. Oregon's Deschutes Forest was evicted even though residents living in the forest have nowhere else to go. And if they stay? Imprisonment. Why is Ford importing Trumpian policies that make no sense?

At 3:30 AM, police closed the gate to Deschutes Forest, leaving 60-80 still inside. “They’ve told us that if we are not out, we will all go to jail. When I said, ‘Where are we supposed to go?’ They said, ‘It’s not our problem,’” - Richard Owens.

More "War on Drugs" legislation from @fordnation. Bill 10 makes any landlord — which could include a public/supportive housing provider — potentially guilty of an offence if residents sell drugs in their units. Providers could be fined up to $1 million. https://t.co/PaXwRTX3M3

Thank you @Diana_C_McNally for releasing this letter. SDC is proud to be a part of this coalition alongside 60+ organizations like @DrugActionWR, @WRLegalServices, @CANdrugpolicy, @cancivlib, @djnontario, @R2HNetwork, and many more. Ontarians need more housing, not punishment.

Today, I released a letter, signed by 67 organizations working across Ontario, asking @fordnation to rescind Bill 6. We can't adopt Trumpian policies to punish encampments; people need proven solutions — especially housing. Read our letter: https://t.co/QabdyOIctz

Waterloo Regional councillors need more time to consider the potential repercussions of penning a letter in support of Consumption Treatment Service (CTS) sites.

Government vs. Government. Bedtime for democracy. Fear of a hostile, vindictive, and petty #ONgov stalls regional letter about #CTS, statutory compliance, and the rule of law.

Court ruled that closing SCS would cause irreparable harm. Yesterday @SylviaJonesMPP and @fordnation were in the news stating they all smoothly transitioned. This is a LIE. Not one hart Hub is open. Organizations have not received funding to be up and running.

@ColinDMello We are in court for this case, as an intervenor. Zero optimism that the approval authority- the Health Minister- will expedite, approve, and fund new consumption services. Previous CTS applications sat idle for years before being denied.
