Police need to be removed from handling tasks for which they are not trained. Mental health, addictions, domestic disputes, homelessness, traffic violations, community disputes, school safety and so much more should be handled by professionals trained for them.

Many of us work with cops everyday (especially in the psych wards) and if we could tell you how many times they actively escalated situations vs. using de-escalation skills it would be unbelievable.
