Reduce, reuse, reflycle! Black soldier flies that are already used industrially to process organic wastes could be engineered to biomanufacture a large variety of high value biomolecules and clean up pollution 🗑️💪🪰 https://t.co/uUIGfQd5Es

Mercury bioremediation has legs! We engineered animals with microbial enzymes to remove methylmercury in their biomass as atmospheric mercury ⚛️💪🪰🐟🎉 https://t.co/1OihgDo9xy

Worms are pretty in rn with supermodel Heidi Klum as a worm: https://t.co/tgvj19x98X Bill Gates visiting the longest known tape worm: https://t.co/bnRTZnwIgR And this neat paper about transgenic worms!

High-throughput transgenesis using synthetic DNA libraries is a powerful method for systematically exploring genetic function. Diverse synthesized libraries have been used for protein engineering,...
I’m at my happiest when I’m learning – no matter how gross the subject matter. Today, I experienced the Meguro Parasitological Museum in Tokyo, and saw what is believed to be the world’s longest tapeworm. 10/10 would visit again.

Imagine seeing a life size tape worm at your Halloween party 🪱 it's dark and you accidentally step on its tail, it shrieks and awkwardly squirms over. Without saying a word, it leans in close to your face, starts breathing heavily, and for the longest time stares into your mouth

For #EarthDay, get inspired by 3 #synbio papers that take on environmental challenges: 3. @SynBioNaut and colleagues @Macquarie_Uni @CSIRO engineer Drosophila to express a fungal laccase that degrades the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A. https://t.co/ulfWWyvr0w

I keep hearing respected people go on podcasts or give interviews where they say we can't go to Mars because of perchlorates. This is silly. So I made this graphic. The piece in the middle is really all you need to read.

The Black Soldier Fly that I drew for my #CoESB conference poster. They have hypnotic eyes AND they can rapidly process large quantities of a wide variety of organic wastes 🪰♥️

Very excited to share our work exploring the potential of using engineered animals for biomanufacturing, bioremediation, and waste management. Watch this space - lots more on the way! https://t.co/g1oW2F1pd2 Congrats @EtInNaturaEgo and @Dr__Tepper

My poster for #WasteManagement21 wasn't uploaded 😢maturation of insect synthetic biology could help divert organic waste from landfill, and be a part of the technological innovations that help solve our climate crisis 🗑️💪🪰

It's a "phased array feed" (PAF) because it has a whole array of radio antenna feeds, where each feed's signal is stitched together using some fancy signal processing to make a wide field of view of space! See also:

...This helps improve sensitivity to faint radio waves coming in from space at around 1-100 Janskys (where your phone would typically emit >100 million Janskys).
