After 12 good years on Twitter and one horrible year of Elon Musk's X-cesspit, I'm hanging up my Twitter-boots. Musk's troll army will have to find someone else to abuse. I might return someday, but in the meantime I'm at Threads. I'll leave you with a recap of my fav moments👇🏻

I have 12,000 followers on BlueSky. People who are saying it is quiet over there clearly haven’t put in the effort to follow people and rebuild what we used to have here. All the old favs are over at BlueSky. No more excuses - I’ll see you over there 👋🏻

Follow up tweet. BlueSky is only going to replace Twitter/X properly if you give it up! I was a Twitter addict and gave it up because it is HORRIBLE here. Musk destroyed it. The only way to fix this mess is to LEAVE! BlueSky is as close to the old Twitter as you’ll find. Join us!

I haven’t tweeted for almost two years! Popping up here to tell you that there’s an old-Twitter-vibe building very quickly at BlueSky! If you haven’t joined yet, can I urge you to leave this Nazi cesspit and come over to the happy place👇🏻 See you there!👋🏻 https://t.co/HOBmQCSrSS

To finish, thank you to everyone who has followed me (not hate-followers!), and has supported me throughout my 13 year journey on here. I really am sorry to say goodbye. Please come over to Threads - or BlueSky - DrVicFielding. I also still write for @independentaus. Thanks🙏🏻End

I hate to have to leave Twitter right when Dutton and the media deserve more scrutiny, not less. But this place is no longer a constructive conversation. When Nazis are being paid to Tweet, I don't want any part of it. I am so tired of the abuse. The old Twitter is gone.

Australia's mainstream media - including the ABC and the Guardian - seem totally ill-equipped to deal with these right-wing political tactics. Despite seeing how the Trump-play-book damaged America, media still treat Dutton's Liberals like a legitimate opposition. It's scary.

The success of the 'No' campaign showed that Dutton is hellbent on destruction of the social fabric. He's turned his focus now to undermining renewable energy using his characterstic fear campaign based on lies and contradictions, supported by his manipulative media campaigners.

The nastiness of 'No' Voice campaign, and the way it emboldened the worst of Australia - both on Twitter and out in society has been upsetting to watch. Australians were manipulated by a fear campaign against an advisory body - campaign of lies and contradictions.

Dutton's divide and conquer strategy is aiming to turn Australia into Trump's broken America. Dutton used what could have been a unifying moment for Australia, as a stick to beat Labor with. Dutton has destroyed any chance of reconciliation and has devastated Aboriginal community

Then we get to the Voice. I understand now that the 'Yes' campaign really lost the day Dutton - who walked out on the apology - chose to create the 'No' campaign by refusing to offer bipartisan support.

Another memorable time on Twitter was when I pushed back against the rise of vile anti-trans movement in Australia. These people are hideous - from the faceless trolls to the 'activists' like Posie Parker. Thanks to this tweet, abusive anti-trans trolls continue to call me a man.

Unequal coverage like this. The fallout from Robodebt continues to be under-reported.

My PhD focused on media framing of trade union disputes. Australian media has a structural bias against the interests of workers, privileging the interests of capital/employers. This is the root cause of unequal coverage of Labor as compared to Liberals.

During my time on Twitter, I did a PhD and became an academic in strategic communication and media. I remain blocked by many senior journalists - including Guardian's editor. Australian media will never reform themselves until they stop being so defensive about critique.

But where would the Liberals be without the Murdoch media always backing them? Note the reply to this tweet from my wonderful mother @KayRollison. Thank you for always having my back Mum 🙏🏻

Although it was fun to watch the Liberals try to pin the election loss on Morrison, truth is the Liberal brand is toxic and continues to get more toxic under toxic-sludge-Dutton.

Absolutely love this quote by Albo - predicting Dutton's "unspeakable and unthinkable" term as opposition leader. Turns out, Dutton is even worse than predicted.

The horse-race style of election coverage by Australian media is failing democracy. It was always great to see Tweeps focused on policies ahead of shallow personality click bait. Policies like this one:
