Covid is still out of control because our national response failed. Many, if not most, of the deaths in the US did not have to happen. There’s still time to improve our response.

@DrTomFrieden My sister in MA told me she had a pot luck lunch at work yesterday. Ok, I know I'm extreme because of circumstances, but really, why do people think this is ok?

Just to give you an idea of important it is to mandate masks, look at the Czech Republic vs. Sweden Swedes essentially don’t wear masks at all, and look at how poorly it’s worked out for them comparatively Just imagine how much worse it could have been without masks

@DrTomFrieden Among G7 nations, US has had the worst mortality impact per capita. Pursuing herd immunity as a “containment” strategy will worsen this further.

@DrTomFrieden Funny how this is following the seasonality trends we’ve seen with other pandemics. Hiding from a virus leads to deaths from other isolation-based reasons. The virus is spreading because it is a *virus.*

@DrTomFrieden @lorrainegc3 We have the highest death rate in the western world, because our President fought tooth and nail to discredit Governors, CDC and even sent FEMA to confiscate PPE's from hospital shipments, and outbid the States for protective gear, yes he tried hard to kill as many citizens

@DrTomFrieden Not going to happen until January 17 unfortunately Dr. Friedan. The current administration’s strategy is to literally get as many of us infected as possible.

@DrTomFrieden Why are some major universities *still* allowed to send sick students home? They aren’t in compliance with the CDC interim guidance. I emailed CDC and sent one school a cease and desist. No one seems to care... at all. I’m at a total loss.

@DrTomFrieden I am following this discussion from far away...but (and this is not a rethorical question): Has the US response been much worse than that of European countries (with the exception of Germany)? Seems to me cumulative deaths aprox =

@DrTomFrieden if @SpeakerPelosi and @senatemajldr would do their jobs and compromise on a stimulus package and get it passed that would improve the situation tremendously

@DrTomFrieden Yes. But it will require those who have been (selfishly) refusing to take part by wearing masks, etc. to begin doing so. For some reason, few seem to recognize the 200+ other countries & territories also going through this are all doing MUCH better for following the precautions.
