Elon Musk drops $44 billion on buying Twitter when Congress won’t pass a bill for half of that- $22 billion - for a federal Covid plan. Imagine if we taxed billionaires and had the political will to fund comprehensive public health programs to address a pandemic 🤷🏻♀️

Or imagine if Elon Musk had dropped $44 billion to feed the hungry or house the homeless in America. If he wanted his name to be praised in the news, that would have been a much more productive use of his riches. (He would be almost- but not quite-as beloved a Dolly Pardon.)

Elon has paid more in taxes than any other American by far. I think a better question is why don’t Americans care for each other and the greater good? Signed—a nurse who holds public health licensure, among others.

The trouble with taxing billionaires more is that the government then has to use the money with more wisdon than the billionaires do. And it doesn’t, generally.

There are women that can’t afford tampons, moms that have to steal formula for their babies, children born with cleft palates because their mother’s nutrition was nonexistent and somehow Elon’s vanity purchase is front page news for days.
