We conducted indepth interviews with 10 Latinx-serving community-based organizations (CBOs) to better understand how they support families in navigating and accessing child care, including CCDF services. CBOs have been found to act as resource-brokers for families.

Child care & development fund (CCDF) subsidies provide access to ECE for low-income families through financial assistance yet Latinx families are disproportionately under-enrolled. In North Carolina, while 16% of CCDF-eligible children are Latinx, only 5% are enrolled.

We then joined Wellspring Women's Center @WWC1987 & learned about their history & how they continued to serve women, children (& men for the first time) through the pandemic. I was excited to learn they hired one of our Child & Adolescent Development students from last semester!

We joined @RCFoodBank where @sacstate has had long partnerships. Most recently @RealSaCEC has started a semester-long volunteer program together w the food bank. We learned about their no-barrier, choice model & about the changes over the pandemic to the need they're seeing

Next was an introduction to & lunch w organizations at the Fruitridge Community Collaborative! There we were introduced to incredible organizations such as @HerHealthFirst, Yisrael Family Urban Farm, @hopenlc, @BPSB2008, among so many other! #hornetcommunitybustour

Also visited @SacNAHC who is building a site w behavioral health, testing, dental clinic, admin offices, & a youth & family space directly across from Luther Burbank. An example of school-linked health! Lots of conversation about how @sacstate can plug into #communityschools mvmt

Overheard on the bus, "I have been in Sacramento for ten years & I feel like I've been reintroduced to #Sacramento." #HornetCommunityBusTour #anchoruniversity.

Despite the heat we had an outdoor tour & convo w @Roberts_FDC where we learned about afterschool programs, Black Child Legacy Campaign @RAACD_Sac & African American Healing Network. Selfishly - we were able to brag about our partnership btw Child & Adolescent Development & RFDC!

Just finished up lunch @SacStateDowntwn where we sat & spoke w civic leaders, community orgs & chambers of commerce including @SacRCC @SacBlackChamber @SacLGBTCenter @justice_sac @castudentaid! Highlighted alumni from @CapFellowsCSUS & had a chance to dream up some partnerships

Our first stop is at Lavender Courtyard a 52-unit affordable senior housing for the LGBTQ community & those who have been unhoused. Grateful to hear from @Mutual_Matters @LSSNorCal @SacStepsForward

The incomparable Dr. Robin Datel, geography professor @sacstate, is leading us w the history of Sacramento, its history and neighborhoods, that will be complemented by community members. We're starting off going down J Street learning about redlining, industry & wealth.

These disruptions are often common & costly. Previous analyses from 2012 show that half of those reporting disruptions experienced them one work week per quarter. Some reported losing pay as a result which could add up to a significant sum

Data from almost 1 year later -late Spring 2020- with @NRCHispanic showed that 1 in 5 adults with young children reported a child care disruption due to the pandemic. Black & Latinx parents reported differing strategies in response to the disruption.

The pandemic put a spotlight on the fragile nature of work & child care for so many of our families. In Dec of 2020 @WaxmanElaine & Poonam Gupta @urbaninstitute found that 1 in 5 adults w children under 6 reported working fewer hours because of childcare.
