The separation referendum will come down to emotion. Many Albertans "feel like Alberta is there for everybody else when they’re falling upon hard times. When we fall on hard times, nobody’s there for us,” Wesley said. “It’s unrequited love.”.

With Alberta staring down the barrel of a vote on separation, I've revisited the research on the 1995 Quebec Referendum. Here are 5 lessons we should learn. And quickly. 🔗

In no uncertain terms, these reforms reflect "the strategies pioneered by Trump Republicans: leveraging dark money, undermining trust in elections, weaponizing recalls, disenfranchising opponents, suppressing voter turnout, & empowering radical populist movements.".

Poilievre & Smith "now hold a unique responsibility. They can fan the flames of grievance. Or they can channel their electoral momentum into a constructive alternative, one that binds regions together in a common purpose." My thoughts on last night.

A reminder on Election Eve:. "Accepting defeat is never easy. It demands humility, patience, and above all, faith in our fellow citizens and our institutions, faith that losing today does not mean losing forever. It also demands work from the winners.".
