On my way home after 5 weeks in the field. Amazing discoveries, stuff that I have dreamed of finding. I’ll be presenting aspects of the results at the Seminar for Arabian Studies in Abu Dhabi in a few weeks! That being said, I’m battered and bruised. Back is wrecked. Exhausted!

Last night vs this morning (Only problem is the site I’m working on is across that stream, my car is way too heavy to cross it without getting bogged, and it’s too far and we have too much equipment to carry it by hand… oh and I leave in 4 days).

Stunning
Immense planning and technical precision was required for this absolutely preposterous (but real) view: I captured my friend @BlackGryph0n transiting the sun during a skydive. This might be the first photo of it's kind in existence. See a video of this moment in the reply 👇

Oh man… the typo and poor grammar is killing me!!!! That’s what happens when you work from 6am until 7pm, 6 days a week, in the field. I’m bloody exhausted.

Wonderful thread about these famous hieroglyphics
1/ Let's have some fun with debunking my favorite internet ancient Egypt conspiracy theory (that's not about the Pyramids). The infamous "Abydos Helicopter" The most recent bleat about this was @darkjournalist who claims this "stele" proves the Egyptians had advanced tech #Egypt

For anyone who is into the whole stone vessel/ancient machines thing…
Dear friends, in this post, I present my latest findings about the predynastic Egyptian stone vases. I feel like I reached the end of the road on the vase project. What I think of these objects now is not at all what I thought a year ago. In fact, the evidence I uncovered led me

Our project is working with the incredible team at Erth to document the stone structures of this region. Pretty cool way to do archaeology!!! Check out their Instagram https://t.co/Z657L6fA56

Yup! Our colleagues recently published a paper on a small settlement near a series of avenues in Khaybar. Most avenues radiate out of oasis that probably had pretty big populations. Further out, we find tens of thousands of camp sites of all different periods.
Fascinating video from @DrHughT on the ancient desert tomb-lined highways of Saudi Arabia. One question I would have is, that seems like a lot of rocks to have to move into place for each tomb. Is there evidence of settlements in close proximity to the tombs?
