More wonderful experiences at Jackie O's Brewery to both their Taproom & Brewpub locations in Athens, Ohio. This brewery makes some of the best beer in Ohio & started small in a college town. They now can & distribute throughout the state.

Brewery: Destihl (Normal, IL). Beer: Dead Head Easy Haze. Style: IPA. ABV: 5%. Analysis: light malt with just a hint of watered-down hops & a pinch of citrus with pine that lacks a dominant thread of flavor. Best Situation: when this is free.

Brewery: Unhitched (Louisville, OH). Beer: Admiralty. Style: ESB. ABV: 5.3%. Analysis: enjoyable dark malt with a black walnut nuttiness countered by a caramel aftertaste. Best Situation: hats off to the captain.

Brewery: Fourscore Beer Co (Gettysburg, PA). Beer: Hop Hat. Style: IPA. ABV: 6.6%. Analysis: a hoppy start that turns malty with a caramel touch & a dry biscuity follow & a pinch of citrus & pine in the long aftertaste. Best Situation: when you should be proud of yourself.

Two visits in as many days to Little Fish Brewing Company in Athens, Ohio. A family friendly brewery with a large outdoor space for kids to dig & play, this location has a tasty food menu along with many unique beers. The brewery also grows some of their own hops on site.

A rainy afternoon visit to Devil's Kettle Brewing in Athens, Ohio. The owner won several home brewing awards before opening this brewery in 2015. They recently celebrated their 10th anniversary.

Brewery: Fat Heads (Middleburg Heights, OH). Beer: Wicked Willy’s. Style: IPA. ABV: 7%. Analysis: soft & a tingly mouthfeel with a load of hops & a bitter malt that balances the hops with citrus & mild pine. Best Situation: relax after a big day.

Brewery: Appalachian Brewing Co (Gettysburg, PA). Beer: Ragged Edge Espresso. Style: stout. ABV: 6.3%. Analysis: bold & rich coffee introduction with a transition to a dark malt aftertaste. Best Situation: 2:30 coffee replacement.

Kicking off #OhioBrewWeek from 250 miles away with Devil's Kettle bourbon barrel aged stout from last year. The annual pilgrimage to Athens comes in just a few days. Cheers!

Brewery: Sibling Revelry (Westlake, OH). Beer: Home of the Brave. Style: lager. ABV: 5%. Analysis: pale & smooth malts at the sip with some hops to appreciate that results in a refreshing classic taste. Best Situation: at the 4th of July party.

Brewery: Twisted Elk (Lake City, PA). Beer: Lemon Squeezy Vanilla Cheesy. Style: shandy. ABV: 5%. Analysis: a tart lemony start that is quickly overtaken by a soothing & creamy vanilla that fades into a mild malt finish. Best Situation: in the sun at 2 pm.
